Lockheed Martin is upgrading the battle command systems of the United States’ military branches. These battle command systems are in charge of all airborne assets which include the U.S. Air Force, Marine Corps, and Navy. This includes bombers, tankers, fighters, unmanned aerial vehicles, helicopters, and cruise missiles.
The Air Tasking Order Management System, also known as ATOMS will be updated with the Lockheed Martin contract given by the U.S. Air Force. This contract permits commanders to deploy air assets, execute air tasking orders and partake in centralized planning.
The Air Force Command and Control Air Operations Suite, also known as the C2AOS, and Control Information Services, also known as C2IS is replacing ATOMS Theater Battle Management Core System, also known as the TBMCS which will make planning, directing, and controlling more efficient through automation.
C4ISR Systems vice president for Lockheed Martin, Dr. Rob Smith stated,
"Since developing TBMCS in 1995, we've ensured that the system provides the tools needed for coordinated air operation. This effort provides the warfighter with additional system to system interoperability to support their continually evolving mission.”
In addition, Lockheed Martin is planning to upgrade over 200 air tasking requirements that will help the integration between management systems such as Legacy Air Force and Army air management systems with ATOMS. Lockheed Martin will improve on warfare capabilities, specifically net-enabled ones. This will help the Air Force navigate remote guided and controlled weapons more efficiently through a system.
Suzanne Smith, a media contact for Lockheed Martin commented,
“Lockheed Martin is commemorating 20 years of supporting TBMCS. Operationally deployed in 2000, TBMCS is used by all air wings of the United States military to plan and execute airborne missions, maintain automated airspace deconfliction, and enable synchronized air battle management.”
